2024 Coulter Wines 'Rathmine’ Adelaide Hills Chardonnay
· 93pts Q Wine, "It's been a while since a Coulter wine has appeared on the Qwine tasting bench, and gee, I'm glad it's back. Structured and textured, this Chardonnay is tops. It sits more on the yellow stonefruit side of the spectrum, but it's still vibrant and athletic. Meyer lemons and old school lemonade do laps around the palate effortlessly. Some pie apple adds interest as does a lemon myrtle like cameo. Yellow grapefruit is chiselled into the frame showing nimble feet and bringing a citrusy zip. As it warms up in the glass, a Portuguese tart creaminess and a pastry feel add further layers of intrigue with a fine cashew nuttiness. A wine that exudes charisma, this is a fabulous example of Chardonnay to splash large and enjoy with those who embrace you with their smile, because that is precisely how this Chardonnay engages you."
· 92+pts Campbell Mattinson (Wine Front), "This is a flavoursome chardonnay. Big flavour, big texture. It offers peach and pear flavours with lemon and cream, a smoked cedarwood character in the mix too. It all hangs together pretty well and there’s no shortage of length, that’s for sure. Though I’m still betting that this wine will benefit from another six or so months in bottle. In any case all the components here are very good. It feels/tastes quality."
· 92pts Tom Kline (Wine Pilot), "Stewed peach, peach blossom, and slithered almond lead the aromas before air reveals preserved lemon, homemade lemonade, a hint of praline and a glimmer of dried apricot. The palate has an attractively bitter tone with peach and yellow apple at the fore followed by lemon peel, homemade lemonade again and grilled nuts. There’s some gentle phenolic grip to the sides providing another textural element and a lovely cut of preserved lemon acidity to wash down the finish. I like this. It delivers on interest and flavour with a good frame of textural structure. Nicely done."
