Giovanni Patritti left his Italian home in 1925 and boarded a boat, which he thought was destined for America. Instead he landed in Port Adelaide, with no English. Just one year later he was leasing vineyards to make wine for the ‘new Australians’. Nearly 100 years later the family (3rd generation) still own, operate and make the wines.

Fruit off the Marion Vineyard 113-year-old Grenache vines and 50-year-old Pedro Ximenez vines.

PX is a Spanish grape, predominantly found in the Sherry region. It makes the richer sherry styles. There are tiny plantings in Australia, with less than a hand full making table wines, not fortified styles, from it.

The 14% alcohol is quite noticeable, on the nose. Once that has burnt off there is layers of cherry and licorice strap aromas. The confectionary characters of the Grenache shines through and the PX has added raisin Christmas pudding characters. It’s a really nice, easy drinking wine and would be a great hit for barbecue season.
