2020 Alkoomi 'Collection' Great Southern Shiraz
The Hallett family has been farming the Frankland River sub region, for 70 years. Their property, originally a mixed grain and livestock farm, was planted to grape vines in 1971. Third generation family members now run the business.
We loved all the black cherry and spicy fruits flavours, in this wine. Don't let the 14.5% alcohol scare you off as it's not noticeable at all.
Here's a review from the Halliday 'Wine Companion'
"Co-fermented with 'a bit' of viognier, and matured in French oak (20% new). Silky, floral, velvety, robust, dusty, ripe and spiced. All very good things here, and unbelievably wrapped up in $28 and smart packaging. The Alkoomi Black label range is a bit of a marvel. Blood plum, mulberry, blackberry and raspberry with lashings of salted licorice, ferrous and lavendar. Another ripping wine here – bravo".
