2017 Patritti ‘Lot Three’ McLaren Vale Shiraz
Giovanni Patritti left his Italian home in 1925 and boarded a boat, which he thought was destined for America. Instead he landed in Port Adelaide, with no English. Just one year later he was leasing vineyards to make wine for the ‘new Australians’. Nearly 100 years later the family (3rd generation) still own, operate and make the wines. Their ‘Lot Three’ was rated 95/100 by James Halliday, he wrote “In a land of feast and plenty, the oak needing to (and will) back off somewhat – after which this wine will be stunning.” We love the Patritti wines for their generosity. It has rich plum and mocha aromas and the palate is ripe, but not overblown. It’s still a baby, with all the youthful plum, dark chocolate flavours and ripe tannins.
