2017 Thompson Estate Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon
Peter and Jane Thompson planted vines on their property in 1994 (their neighbour is Vasse Felix). Prior to stating their own wine brand, they were shareholders in the Pierro and Fire Gully vineyards. They employed Bib Cartwright (formerly Leeuwin Estate winemaker) to make their wines. It’s a generous wine with blackcurrant and cinnamon aromas and medium weighted palate.
Below is the James Halliday review & rating
“An altogether serious wine that includes 5% each of malbec and cabernet franc plus 2% merlot. Despite suggestions of tenderly doing this or that in the vinification, this is Wilyabrup's answer to Bordeaux. While there are some delicious red/cassis/purple flavours, the stern mouthfeel makes you stand up and salute. It is still in its first flush of youth.”
