2020 Strata 'Light Dry Red' Victoria
Equal parts Pinot Noir & Shiraz. Equal parts gluggable and fun.
This blend became popular about 5 years ago when James Halliday rated the Yarra Yering ‘Light Dry Red’ as his wine of the year. Yarra Yering winemaker, Sarah Crowe had trouble convincing her bosses it was a good idea to make the wine in the first place. She learnt her trade in the Hunter Valley, where they had been blending Pinot Noir with Shiraz for decades. In Victoria it was not common but has since caught on.
The Strata is outrageously gluggable and doesn’t mind a slight chill if you’re at a bbq. Ripe cherry and plum aromas lead to punter friendly palate with plenty of red berry fruit compote flavours and gentle, softly drying tannins to finish.
