2018 Yering Farm 'Duck Down Under' Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
Yering Farm is owned and operated by the Johns family, fifth generation orchardists and first-generation winemakers. They planted their property in 1988 after research discovered the land was originally planted to grape vines back in 1880s. The grapes for Alan Johns’ wines are all off the home site. This is his entry level Pinot. 30% of his reserve fruit went in this for the 2018 vintage. It has a savoury nose, similar to baked bread and the palate is easy drinking with red berry fruits and rhubarb flavours, with a hint of spice to finish.
