2012 Small Gully ‘Formula’ Adelaide Plains Cabernet Shiraz Blend
Stephen Black and his son are the winemakers behind the wines and their business partner is Darren Zimmerman. Darren’s family has been growing grapes in the Barossa Valley for 90 years. Most of the Small Gully wines are sent to the US where they have a huge following for their big style and bottle age. The Cabernet fruit (54%) comes off Darren’s 50-year-old vineyard and Shiraz fruit (46%) from the Barossa Valley. The colour has tawny edges, with cigar box, ground coffee and leather aromas. The palate has blackberry fruit flavours, along with secondary characters of mocha, coffee and roasted chestnuts.
