2010 Kaesler ‘Alte Reben’ Barossa Valley Mataro
Alte Reben is German for “old vines” – and the Kaesler Mataro vines are definitely that; planted in 1930. Usually their Mataro is blended into a GSM but when the fruit is exceptional, an exceptional wine is made.
This is a very elegant Mataro. It has the rustic red and black fruit mingled with some garrigue and liquorice. All of this is wrapped up in a tight structure. Beautiful drinking now but also good in a five to six years.
