2006 Lafon - Rochet Bordeaux Saint-Estèphe Merlot Cabernet Blend
Lafon – Rochet’s heritage can be traced back to the 15th century. The present owners bought the property in 1960 reinvigorating it. It is sits on a small hilltop in Saint-Estèphe and has 15 different parcels classified by the soil. All are vinified separately and blended after. Aging for 16 – 18 months takes place in 50% new French oak. It was classified as a 4ème cru classé and is known for being a “rugby man in a tutu” – strong but delicate.
Still medium ruby in colour with only hints of garnet. Complex aromas of blackcurrant, cut grass and pencil shavings. The acid has softened with the ageing but is still bright with definite fine grained tannins. Excellent primary fruit in the mid palate belying its youth with lovely long length.
